Mysterious message sparks speculation amongst members of the SHIB community
Something big is coming? Well that's at least what the Shiba Inu community is speculating after developer Shytoshi Kusama updated his status on Twitter with a cryptic message. His update included the words "On the 1st day…my true love gave to me…" and he changed his location to "Close." This has led many people to believe that the release of Shibarium, a Layer 2 solution for the meme cryptocurrency, could be imminent.
This Layer 2 solution was initially proposed by Ryoshi, the anonymous founder of the Shiba Inu cryptocurrency back in May 2021. If it is released, Shibarium could revolutionize the meme cryptocurrency by significantly lowering fees and speeding up transactions. This could be a major breakthrough for Shiba Inu.
The status message could also hint at the potential release day which appears to be Jan. 1, 2023. If this is the case, then Shiba Inu enthusiasts have something big to look forward to in 2022. The Unification Foundation, the entity that is developing this Layer 2 solution, had previously announced that they were expecting to start public beta testing in the third quarter of 2022.
So far there has been no official statement from the Foundation nor any other news regarding its development progress which has led many members of the Shiba Inu community to ask questions about it.
Overall, it looks like something big may be brewing and the Shiba Inu community is eagerly waiting to see what the future holds for this meme cryptocurrency. Only time will tell if Ryoshi's vision of a Layer 2 solution will come true in 2023 or if his mysterious message was simply a case of false hope.
Sam Bankman-Fried denied bail - awaiting extradition to the U.S. at Bahamas' Fox Hill prison
It is reported that the once-famed crypto investor, Sam Bankman-Fried, is currently residing in one of the most luxurious prisons known to man. Fox Hill! With its five-star gourmet meals, an optional spa day for all inmates and even a special VIP wing for those with higher status - SBF sure has hit the jackpot this time.
JK. Considered one of the worst prisons in the world, Fox Hill holds a reputation for its lack of hygiene, high risk of contracting diseases, rodent infestations and cases of violence. Unfortunately, this is the consequence SBF must face for allegedly participating in the downfall of FTX exchange (among other things) - and customers losing billions in deposits. It looks like he's gonna have to tough it out behind bars for a while.
SBF was presented in front of the Bahamas court yesterday on two counts of wire fraud, two counts of wire fraud conspiracy and one count of money laundering. If found guilty, he faces over 100 years in prison - that's a looooong time! Let's hope justice takes its course swiftly and we get our answers sooner rather than later.
He'll stay in Fox Hill prison until he is extradited to the states. In the meantime, we can only hope that FTX investors will get their money back and justice prevails!
Gemini Breach: 13 million active users' data compromised
It looks like Gemini, a crypto exchange, was the victim of a data breach, and they're saying that it wasn't their fault. According to their blog post, they said it was a "result of an incident at a third-party vendor." That's a hell of a way to shift the blame.
Hackers gained access to 5,701,649 lines of information. What's scary is that they got access to phone numbers, but some of the digits were hidden. That's a relief, I guess?
Gemini also warned users about phishing campaigns as a result of the breach. So you know what that means - if you get any emails from Gemini or anything suspicious, be sure to double-check it before clicking any links. The database did not include any sensitive personal information, like names and addresses, but they were still able to get 13 million active users' data. Yikes!
Gemini is currently working with an independent cybersecurity firm to investigate the incident, so hopefully we'll all know the real story soon. In the meantime, it's important to remain vigilant about your security. Keep your passwords strong and change them frequently, use two-factor authentication on accounts where possible, and never share personal information online. Only you can keep yourself safe.
