Tornado Cash dev to be released from custody, pending trial

Tornado Cash dev, who was arrested in August, is due to be released from custody on April 26 and will return home, pending trial. The arrest happened after the US government added Tornado Cash and 44 associated Ethereum and USDC wallets to its Specially Designated Nationals list. Alexey Pertsev's (the dev's) wife, Ksenia Malik, confirmed that he will be returning home with an ankle monitor in time for his birthday on April 26th.

Before now, Pertsev had faced several denials of release, as Dutch judges expressed concern he would flee or tamper with evidence if allowed out. However, his lawyers were successful in appealing to the Supreme Court of the Netherlands who ruled that he must be released from pre-trial detention.

This ridiculous treatment of a software developer sparked protests from Edward Snowden and the worldwide crypto community, but it's not clear if the protests had any influence on the Supreme Court's decision. The dev is due to appear in court on May 24th, where a further investigation hearing is scheduled.

Binance is one step closer to acquiring Voyager

Binance has just taken a major step toward acquiring Voyager Digital, the bankrupt crypto lender. The Uncensored Creditors Committee (UCC) has reached an agreement with the U.S. government, paving the way for Binance.US to acquire Voyager and overcome any regulatory hurdles that have been standing in their way for months.

The agreement between the UCC and the U.S. government has come as a welcome surprise, given the uncertainty over whether or not the acquisition would be approved in recent weeks. Nevertheless, this new deal will probably allow Binance.US to acquire Voyager without any further issues.

It remains to be seen what the acquisition will mean for the two companies and how it will affect the crypto industry a whole, but it's an exciting development that many people have been hoping would come to fruition. It looks like Binance is one step closer to making this happen.

ENS integrates fiat payments for acquiring .eth domains

Ethereum Name Service or ENS announced that it will be integrating fiat payments for domain purchases through MoonPay. Through this integration, users can now buy .eth domain names using their local currencies like credit/debit cards and Apple Pay or Google Pay.

This new feature is a result of MoonPay's partnership with ENS. MoonPay approached Johnson, the ENS Lead Developer and Founder, in the second quarter of 2022. Before they proposed this partnership, Johnson said that workarounds available weren't up to par, some sort of 3rd party plugins and services were needed to buy .eth domains with fiat.

MoonPay is a crypto payment services provider that accepts 43 local currencies in more than 160 countries. It offers the convenience of buying from anywhere and paying with the most popular payment methods locally available to users, that's really good crypto adoption-wise, as ENS addresses became more popular in the past few years. More than 2.7 million Ethereum Name Service digital tokens have been acquired in total by more than 667,000 owners.
